pink

Over the past couple months, I’ve been making, buying, and receiving a lot of pink things. Here’s a sample:

Clockwise from top left: Timbuk2 tote bag (on sale!), knitting bag by Nichole, sneakers and track jacket (from a recent trip to a Puma outlet store), Lady E, and a folded Hourglass. They all [...]

Olympic gold report

First, I want to thank everyone who’s encouraged me on this endeavor, particularly Jillian, who’s been doing such an awesome job hosting the Lady E-along and whose own Lady E helped me decide to start one, Kate, whose Lady E was also extremely influential and inspiring, and of course the Yarn Harlot for starting the [...]

day 16 – near gold!

Last night around midnight, I finished the knitting of my Lady Eleanor mini-blanket. Here she is enjoying some natural light…

And the wrong side, as proof that I wove in all 28 ends (very late last night)…

Now all I need to do is wash and block her! I’d like to get a little more [...]

day 13

My Lady E is now too big to photograph on the couch!

At about 6.5 skeins out of 10, I’m a little behind. But now that I’ve had a lot of experience knitting backwards the tiers are going much more quickly than in the beginning, so I’m still optimistic.

photo update

I had time to either upload pictures and write a few words or write a lot of words. Since this is a knitting blog, I opted for the former.
A present:

Some progress:

This is after about 2.5 skeins. My progress has slowed since day 1 (due in part to ripping out a whole tier), [...]

Olympic knitting: day 1

This is what my coffee table looks like after last night’s Olympic knitting (about 5 hours of it):

It’s Lady Eleanor, blanket-ish, in Noro Silk Garden 205. I’m going for something about 33 inches wide by at least 50 inches long. After one skein (of ten) I’m through the base triangles and 2.5 tiers. [...]

Seahawks and Tea

Yesterday I had three knitters and a crocheter over to “watch” the Super Bowl. After getting a lot of use out of my Silk Garden beanie over the weekend, I decided I could justify making another. The colorway (226) included Seahawk colors (especially the brim), so it seemed appropriate. The game ended [...]

a poem and a meme

I heard about this very cool (silent) poetry reading today and had to participate. Here’s something I dug up that seemed appropriate for both the season and a knitting blog:
friday february night
and the washing machines are running,
garlic chopped,
water boiling.
two full weeks of fatigue
and grumpy mystery
lift.
the year nearly two twelfths done,
only one more day of [...]

New MagKnits!

I normally don’t post about new issues of magazines (online or not), but I just found the new MagKnits and it’s amazing! Knit sushi (all the patterns I’ve seen are for crochet). A lacy mohair scarf (my Butterfly yarn from the Yarn Lady bag sale will be perfect for it). A pretty [...]
